Appeal for class-action lawsuit against connection data storage in Germany (12/02/06 2:54 pm)

The connection data storage which obligates public servers to store connection data for at least six months is on the way. It's about time to conduct legal actions. The Arbeitskreis Vorratsdatenspeicherung (German association against connection data storage) now appeals for a class-action lawsuit at the German Federal constitutional court against the connection data storage. It offers a form which requires being filled out with name, address, and what kind of different telecommunications media is used by the citizen. The form will be converted into a PDF document which needs to be printed out and mailed to the Berlin lawyer Starostik.
That document authorizes him to plead the case at court for a German citizen if the connection data storage bill should pass the parliament. The lawyer will not charge the citizen as he explained. The Arbeitskreis received a document stating that he will take over the costs. The citizen won't have to show up in person at court. He/she just has to mail the filled out mandate to the lawyer. Anti1984.com recommends every concerned German to make use of his/her basic rights and fight against the increasing surveillance. At the time of writing more than 6000 Germans have registered a mandate.

Comment:
Finally something is going on in Germany against the connection data storage. German citizens now have an opportunity to become active against this law in case it passes the parliament. Hopefully, this action is noticed in other EU countries too and encourages national assocations and lawyers to conduct similar legal actions in their own country.
