60 million data sets available to German security authorities (10/12/06 6:26 pm)
What files can already be accessed by German security authorities at the present time? The German left-wing-party wanted an answer to this question and filed an application to the German department of the interior which then released a list that mentions the wanted data sets.
According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the police, the federal police, and the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation has access to 197 databases containing 60 million data sets.
Many of these are special databases such as the fingerprint database which contains 6 million fingerprints.
The list neither includes the planned anti-terror database, nor the data created by the Protection of the Constitution, German intelligence service, and German counterintelligence service.
