Lately there's almost daily news about new developments of surveillance which increases more and more in all aspects of our daily life, offline by video cameras and RFID, online by the saving connection data of your online activities - and that's just the beginning! Many people are only little or not aware of the developments of surveillance and its consequences. If you start a discussion on the web for example, you will meet all kinds of opinions; from adversaries of surveillance, people not knowing enough about this subject to have an adequate opinion, up to users who aren't interested or rate the latest developments to be harmless - or even consider surveillance as the right thing to do.
According to a German opinion poll 47% of the participants refuse the saving of their telecommunications data for a longer period of time. 73% refuse to pay the costs for the storage of this data.
As you can see, almost the half of these people know that there will be the saving of connection data in the future. Yet what about the others who either don't know anything about these developments or consider them to be harmless? And what else is being monitored today and in the future, in what way will it be done? How can one protect his anonymity and privacy in these days? What other risks and dangers exist and what measures should one take, both online and offline?
To answer these questions I decided to found anti1984.com. Since these subjects are very important to myself as well as I often get into contact with people who would like to know more about surveillance, dangers and security on the internet and effective countermeasures, I'd like to inform everyone who's interested with the help of this website in an understandable way about all this; by news about the latest developments, guides, and discussions. For the latter, anti1984.com offers a forum where you can discuss these and other topics.
